Cyber Essentials in brief
To achieve certification your organisation will need to meet requirements in five control areas:
- Firewalls and routers
- Software updates
- Malware protection
- Access control
- Secure configuration
Depending on the size of your company, you can seek certification for the whole organisation or for specific subsidiaries or business areas.

Certification Options
The government scheme offers two levels of certification: Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus. In addition, through our partnership with CyberSmart, Seeto is pleased to also offer CyberSmart Active Protect – year-round compliance and protection.
Cyber Essentials
A self-assessment option which checks that you are protected from the most common cyber attacks. We’ll help you to gather the relevant data, answer the questions and address any flaws that may prevent you from achieving certification.
Cyber Essentials Plus
This option covers the same technical scope but with an additional remote technical assessment by a qualified Cyber Essentials assessor for extra peace of mind. We can also offer on-site audits if required.
Four steps to Cyber Essentials Certification:
- Review your current Cyber Essentials status
- Create a plan to meet the Cyber Essentials standard
- Assist with the implementation of required controls and policies
- Complete and submit the Cyber Essentials questionnaire to our partner, CyberSmart, an accredited certification body
Those who wish to continue to Cyber Essentials Plus will also undergo a fully remote technical audit by a friendly, qualified Cyber Essentials Plus assessor

The Cyber Essentials certification is like your MOT – it only confirms that you’re protected at the time of the assessment. But in a fast-growing company – and with remote working becoming increasingly common – new users, devices and systems will quickly change the overall security profile.
With the CyberSmart Active Protect app installed on your devices, we will help you monitor and maintain Cyber Essentials compliance continuously.
The app assesses the device’s security status every 15 minutes and notifies you – or your Seeto Concierge contact – via the CyberSmart Dashboard.
