What one person can’t do

  • Be in two places at once. Every ticket, project and “quick question” goes to the same person, and the urgent always beats the important.
  • Cover their own holiday. At least 5.6 weeks a year, plus sick days, with nobody covering.
  • Know everything. Okta, Intune, Cyber Essentials, backups and AI policy are each a speciality. Nobody is expert in all of them.
  • Stay forever. When they leave, what they knew leaves with them, and you start hiring again.

It’s a lonely, overloaded job. Good people burn out in it, and that isn’t their fault.

Salaries are London figures from the Robert Half Salary Guide 2025. All-in costs add about 50% for employer National Insurance, pension, benefits, kit and software, in line with the ranges on our pricing page.
